Abstract
Teaching students to become independent learners requires systematic attention to pedagogical conditions. While independent learning is widely valued, educators need clear guidance on how to teach this capacity. This article identifies eight critical pedagogical conditions: (1) explicit instruction in learning strategies, (2) strategic scaffolding, (3) metacognitive modeling, (4) authentic tasks, (5) psychological safety, (6) formative assessment and feedback, (7) growth mindset cultivation, and (8) reflective practice development. Drawing on cognitive psychology, social-cognitive learning theory, and constructivist pedagogy, the article argues these conditions must be systematically integrated and adapted to diverse contexts. Implementation requires intentional course design and institutional support.
