Abstract
The article provides a detailed examination of the lexical-semantic method of term formation within the field of mathematics, focusing on the mechanisms through which mathematical terms are created and developed through semantic shifts, meaning extension, and specialization of existing lexical units. Special attention is given to the processes by which common words acquire specialized mathematical meanings as a result of scientific and conceptual development. Furthermore, the study conducts a comparative analysis of the lexical-semantic word-formation methods in the Uzbek and English languages, highlighting both shared features and language-specific characteristics. The comparison reveals similarities in semantic motivation and metaphorical extension, as well as differences arising from structural, historical, and typological factors of the two languages. The findings demonstrate how linguistic and cultural contexts influence the formation, adaptation, and standardization of mathematical terminology in Uzbek and English.
