Abstract
This paper discusses the status of, and future of contrastive lexicography as an interdisciplinary study that combines aspects of lexicography with aspects of comparative linguistics, translation studies and corpus linguistics. It is not only interested in methodology of interlingual asymmetry and equivalence, but also on practicality in production and enhancement of different kinds of lexicographic sources, such as bilingual and multilingual dictionaries, phraseological and cultural dictionaries. Much attention is devoted to typological categorization of dictionaries, definition of major concepts of equivalence, and methods of description of linguistic differences and analogies. The article further examines the modern technology advances and incorporation of digital technology in lexicography such as the creation of electronic and multimodal dictionaries as well as the application of huge corpora and automated analysis tools to improve the quality of lexicographic texts. The importance of contrastive lexicography to the research of phraseological and cultural qualities of translation and the development of new dictionaries that highlight the interplay of languages and cultures as a result of globalisation and digitalisation is also discussed.
